We offer real-world solutions to threats to your personal safety and security. Come learn how to live a safer and more confident life in a stress-free (and sweat-free) environment. We teach much more than a watered-down martial art. We also stress awareness and avoidance, as well as how to handle the stress and fear that comes with violent attacks. Avoid what can be avoided, and triumph over that which cannot.
Equipping, Encouraging, and Empowering people with self-defense tools to be aware, avoid, and effectively respond to the real-life threats that can arise and help make the world a safer and more peaceful place.

Many underestimate sudden violence, leaving their response unprepared. Prism Self Defense treats preparedness as essential, equipping practical tactics for real-world protection readiness training.
We foster a safe and stress free environment. It's a psychological fact that the stress hormones like cortisol, adrenaline, and others impede learning and retention. Classes are as light and fun as we can make them, considering the subject matter.
The strategic portion is essentially about what we do to avoid or prepare for dangerous situations which in our opinion is the most important part of our instruction. The tactical portion is all about what to do when the threat becomes imminent. We call them combatives and they include simple, large muscle movements that anyone can do and take a minimum of coordination and practice.
This school is founded by Wade Parshall, a 5th degree black belt in Japanese Jujitsu. In the 90's he was ranked top ten in the world in the Self Defense division of the International Sport Karate Association and the National BlackBelt League. He was severely bullied in his adolescent years and that fostered in him a deep belief that all people should be free from bullies (actual criminals being the absolutely worst type of bullies).
All our instruction revolves are the four aspects of self defense. Awareness, Avoidance, Mindset, and Combatives. These are the types of tools we put in your Self Protection Toolbox. This currently comes in 3 formats:
Weekly classes build consistent skill through guided repetition and real-time correction. Each session trains participants to recognize early warning signs, manage distance, and respond with controlled movement when needed.
Private and small group lessons are designed for individuals who want direct instruction without the pace of a class setting.
Corporate seminars address personal safety within the workplace and public-facing environments. Sessions focus on recognizing risk, managing proximity, and maintaining control during unexpected interactions.
Training at Prism Self Defense changed how I move through daily situations. The focus on awareness before physical response felt practical rather than theatrical. I noticed myself paying attention to exits, people, and distance without overthinking it during everyday routines now.
I joined without expecting much, mostly out of curiosity after a friend suggested it. The sessions were framed around simple principles that actually made sense in real situations. It felt realistic and easy to apply in high-pressure situations when defense is the only mechanism to protect yourself.
As a parent, I wanted something grounded in real-world safety, not sport-based training. The instructors at Prism Self Defense focused heavily on awareness and calm decision-making before any physical action. That approach makes it easier to trust how to respond under pressure.
